History
Very Tight Recordings was founded in 2006, driven by a D.I.Y mentality and a desire to help local musicians affordably record their music at a high quality. With nothing but an eight channel input and a bedroom for a tracking space, Matt set out to become an engineer in the local music scene. As he learned and grew his gear collection and his talents, he upgraded the space as well. This grew more attention from local bands and the studio went from simply doing demos to EP’s and albums.
In 2011, Matt recorded and engineered an album that was released through Southern Lord, making it his first label release. The following year, Matt would work with Code Orange, and his career quickly gained traction with not only the local music scene, but he also developed a reputation in the New England and Mid West areas.
After a host of location changes and upgrades, the studio moved to its permanent home in 2012. At first glance, this “forever home” was an abandoned warehouse in Pittsburgh, but after three and a half years of dedicated conversion and renovation, Matt and his dad transformed it into a fully functional, professional recording studio. Since the studio was built by Matt, every design decision was thoughtful, intentional, and tailored to fulfill a single purpose: capturing a real, clean, articulate representation of your sound.
In 2016, the studio became a full time operation. Since the studio’s formation, Matt has worked with a wide range of clients notably Roadrunner, Warner, Metal Blade, Triple Crown Records, NBC, Beyond Productions, Heart Attack Man, Morgan Simpson (Black Midi), Code Orange, Shai Hulud, David Correy, Loraine James, Short Fictions and Duquesne University.
